Seeing Red

I am not a football fan in the accepted sense. I may watch the occasional Match of the Day from the sofa, but I owe no direct allegiance on the terraces. That said, like tens of thousands of like-minded, I wanted Liverpol to lift that trophy.

Prince Hal, despite his own supposed protestations, is not going to serve in Iraq. One supposes that a tank bearing the Royal Standard may be something of a natural target.

Esther Rantzen proved to be one of the more effective Roscoe lecturers when she addressed a capacity audience on St George's Hall on the continuingneed to protect vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse.
In the same setting the next day, culture secretary Tessa Jowell was somewhat less effective in evoking the pioneering spirit for Capital of Culture.

Much excitement in limited quarters about Tate Liverpool hosting the 2007 Turner Prize, and announcing the four short-listed artists.
As the city already hosts Britain's other big fine arts award - the John Moores, notching up half a century this year - and now has a biennial, the passing presence of the Turner, leaving London for the first time in its 22-year history, adds further gloss,

I have been asked to take part in a television programme about the July 1 smoking ban in public places.
I shall be arguing (obviiously to no avail) against the overall ban and in favour of selective smoking areas.
