Funny Ha Ha

I have just been to the unique annual civic luncheon given to honour Liverpool's comedians.
Ken Dodd was, as usual, the chief guest of honour, calling for a plaque to honour the comics of old, including Robb Wilton, Arthur Askey and Ted Ray.
Not suited to Catholic Tastes

The Roman Catholic church - like its Anglican counterpart - has a dread of being involved in debates that involve homophobia. Both faiths wish the 'problem' would just go away.
But the latest bout of ignorance does not concern the ordination of gay clergy (of which there are many), but rather a failure to address bullying of gay pupils in schools.

Professional envirnomental anoraks are not pleased with the mere £6m increase the chancellor has allowed to assist homeowners with solar panels and wind turbines. They say the government should lead by example, turning off the lights in ministry buildings which are left on all night. But then old Gord found himself in a particularly embarrassing spotlight.

Much ado about Gordon Brown's give and take budget. Even the commentators couldn't work out the fine detail. All will be clear when it backs up into our wallets.

Much trumpeting for the Liverpool regional premiere screening of the anti-slavery movie Amazing Grace, with star Ioan Gruffudd and director Michael Apted lined up for a post-show question and answer session. Then disaster struck.....

I am always sceptical about surveys (as I never seem to have featured in one). Television viewing and radio listening figures are top of the league among my pet hates, closely followed by "attendance" ratings for some public events. Not least the Liverpool International Art Biennial.
