Joe Riley

Joe Riley is arts editor, columnist and leader writer for the Liverpool ECHO. The Life of Riley is a wry look at existence - local, national and international (and occasionally into outer space) - as seen by the UK's senior serving arts critic and the ECHO's longest-serving journalist.

Americans Offside

I am not a particular follower of football - but, as so many of my friends are obsessed with the subject, football inevitably follows me. Thus I can be considered a detached observer, be it Red or Blue. Meanwhile, back at the ranch.....

The sight of Messrs Gillett, Hicks and respective offstpring (plus ball) paraded for photographers on the Anfield turf with those cheesy "Daddy's bought a brand new toy" grins, reminded me, in passing, of a mass doorstepping by the Mormons.
Cue joke:
Mormons: Can we come in?
Answer: Yes........please sit down. What can we do for you?
Mormons: "Err, we're not quite sure. We've never got this far before."
PS Ticket prices at Anfield are likely to rise as part of the "restructuring."
Yes indeed. And now the fun begins.......

What, hello, Joe - a new blog?

... & tickets haven't already gone up in price? Where've you been for the last fifteen-odd years, since the Premiership started?!?

:D

...Or as BW (5 years gone today, God bless 'im) might say: This is the right side of the Atlantic, & they're on the wrong side.

I believe that we need to re-bastionise our invincibility... to mash a Shankly quote.

I wonder how the Boot Room treated it's new owners? Lesson one, this is how you kick balls!

All the best.
